On the same day of his disappearance, the body of six-year-old John William Hampton was discovered. His father, Joe Hampton, was tried and convicted of his son’s murder. His mother, Mary Lynn, was suspected of having prior knowledge of her son’s abuse. To assure the safety of 4-year-old Molly Jane Hampton, the judge removes her from her mother’s care. Full custody is granted to her maternal aunt, Laura Wilson. Laura is convinced of Joe’s guilt and believes her sister was aware.
